The wait for full-time events in Kyiv is finally over. Two such venues that are looking forward to the warmer summer months and relaxed COVID restrictions are Kureni and Closer. With the sad demise of Strichka Festival for this year, the crew behind Closer will be presenting a make-up event that will ease the pain a little.
Taking place at the sprawling arts hub across May 22nd and 23rd Closer will play host to a range of local and international artists that were once destined for Strichka Festival. These include Canadian live wizard Mathew Jonson, Romanian lynchpin Rhadoo, as well as Gosh, Molly, Roman K, Shakolin, Trippsy, Bambu, Timur Basha, OMAR, Borys, Koloah, and pahatam. This cut-down version of the festival will be more than enough to tide over the heads until the next events hit the venue.
The heads won’t have long to wait either as the Closer crew will be back in action the very next week and pretty much every week all weekend for the duration of the summer months. You can pretty much guarantee that the music will be on point for much of the time but dates coming up include Dr Banana on Saturday, May 29th, Robin Ordell, Noizar, and Borys on Saturday, June 5th, Bruno Schmidt on Saturday, June 26th, Alex Picone on Saturday, July 10th, Tho on Saturday, July 17th, and Rasho on 14/08. There will be many more highlight nights to watch out for just wait and see.
As well as throwing legendary parties at Closer the Ukranian collective will again be taking over Kureni. After the wintertime Maslyana event there with The Ghost, Evan Baggs, and Priku amongst others it is clear that Kureni is going to be a home from home. Running in tandem with parties at Closer they will be bringing the best in the business here too. Fabric mainstay Jane Fitz will be dropping by on Saturday, June 12th, everybody’s favourite German / Chilean Ricardo Villalobos will be bringing the noise on Saturday, June 19th, and then Seth Troxler will be headlining on Saturday, July 24th.
