When Caprices Festival announced their 2021 plans, several dates were to be saved. The timetable was planned for April and September, two weekends in each. Despite having to be scaled back, the 2020 edition (read our review here) had been too much fun. So the intention was to do plenty more.
April came, but the effects of the pandemic remained. So rather than returning to the dancefloor, we got a digital treat instead. Luciano back on top of the mountain, at one streaming in the beautiful surroundings of Crans-Montana. Mathew Jonson, with one of his oh so special live sets halfway up in the Arouva forest. With resident Giorgio Maulini and his records bringing up the rear.
And now we look forward to September. It’s already a truly handsome line-up. Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos return together to take the stage, a rare chance to see the percussive pair in double action. Mathew Jonson LIVE, Guy Gerber, Nicolas Duvoisin, Cesar Merveille B2B ALCI. The usual suspects, the ones who know this festival crowd inside out.
The second wave of artists makes it even more pretty. Francesco Del Garda, Andy Luff and Margaret Dygas, hosted by Picnic Records, add infusions of deep, house and minimal. All party starters in their own right, this lineup promises a dreamy three days sound-tracked by house and techno of the highest calibre. And that’s just the weekend one.
Romanian cohort featuring Cally, Gescu and the much-loved duo Praslesh are brought in by SUNRISE, while Apollonia, Zendid, John Dimas, Roustam top up the most underground bits of the bill. Moving on to different styles and directions, DJ Tennis, Blond:ish, Hot Since 82, Cinthie and Joey Daniel all adds their weight to a well crafted 360 degrees lineup that reflects several musical directions.
With Caprices inviting partners such as Epizode, UNUM Festival, Movement Festival and Techno V, aside from the already mentioned Picnic Records and SUNRISE, Crans-Montana is certainly calling. The lineup is as always, on point. Possibly even that bit more special this time around. The location remains radiant and the thought of being back at the top of those slopes is quite simply alluring.
Tickets for both weekends are on final release, available to purchase here.
