Canadian-founded imprint VRNT returns with an unmissable slab of atmospheric minimalism. Having appeared on the esteemed French label Minibar as well as his won Platon Records, Praymond now delivers two deep original cuts. This is backed up by remixes from Minibar label head Cabanne and Guy From Downstairs.

Working in reverse order, we take aim first of all at side B where we find Praymond’s “73 Infuse”. In its original form, dubby echos can be found throughout as the French artist slinks his way through smoky atmospheres. This pensive mood is further punctuated nicely by way of swinging hats, analog block percussive elements, and a sparingly used collection of clicks, whirrs, and pops.

This idea is progressed somewhat by Cabanne where he injects some welcome energy that really helps to elevate this track from the warm, comfortable climbs of the original version to a more groove laden heater that Cabanne is very well known for.

Back on side A and Praymond’s first original work “L’odeur des rêves” opts for a more classically crispy minimal approach. Scything claps and icy hi hats act as the perfect juxtaposition to the looping tonal background and inviting French monologue.

Taking the reins on the remix is Guy From Downstairs and he moves the hypnotic theme forward more than a few steps. More upfront drum programming features heavily, as does more pronounced basslines and percussive elements. As always, VRNT find just the right balance between deep electronics and club orientated grooves and continue to bring bigger and bigger artists into their fold.
