Berlin-based Overground boss Rickie launches new imprint Utopiality with his immersive 4-tracker “The Sci-Fi Era”.
Taking aim at the EP in reverse order, our pick is the B2 track “Destination Unknown”. A cosmic slice of electro techno where snappy snares, ride hats, and a bounding bassline take control of the opening moments. Synth washes are soon added to the mix, where the droning synth stabs soon add just the right amount of attitude. B1 belongs to “Stellar”, where the spacey theme is further explored via cascading snares, distorted synths, and waning pads.
Over on side A, “Galactica Expedition” stays true to its title and probes deep into the void of space with a bleepy motif that harnesses the stripped-back grooves and arcing synths. Completing side A is “Imagination” and rounding out the journey across this debut EP from Utopiality, Rickie flexes his dancefloor credentials and ushers in a new era of sonic exploration.
