Premiere: B2 – And.rea – Pitt’s Acid Thoughts [YAY010]

Italian collective YAY Recordings celebrate their 10th release in stellar fashion, welcoming their own resident, And.rea, to make his first mark on the imprint with his Brain Jams EP. At the tender age of 20, Andrea La Pietra has already established an impressive musical repertoire. Immersing himself in his local scene from the age of 15, And.rea’s appetite for electro obscurity quickly earned him his place behind the decks as one of YAY’s resident DJs. By the age of 18, And.rea had was already holding his own wax in his hands: a polished 2×12” on Berlin based Melliflow. Backing this up with an equally high-calibre release on Lowmoneymusiclove last year, And.rea is deservedly recognised for his mastery of the art of eclecticism. His latest release hails straight from the underground, revisiting his YAY roots with mind-melting cuts of otherworldly acid.

Our premiere today takes the B2: Pitt’s Acid Thoughts, rounding off the diverse EP with its pounding peak-time vibes. The track immediately intoxicates us with a fast, jolting kick before descending into a wayward acid frenzy. The intensity levels continue to soar but never overwhelm: each element of the track has a very deliberate feel to it, ensuring that no sound is overshadowed. Awash with synth lines that bring a welcomed lightness to And.rea’s brooding, deeper electro, the track provides the ideal escape from reality. It’s an immersive musical experience unbound by the constraints of a certain moment or place: a ‘brain jam’ in its element.
