Premiere: B1 – Kai Stein – Empowered [TSR002]

Hailing from the picturesque city of Nijmegen, the oldest in the Netherlands, carrying a legacy of over two millennia, the crew behind The Set house collective took a step forward this time last year. In addition to the iconic parties and radio they’re curating, they launched a record label under the same name.

Having said that, let’s move on to today’s spotlight, TSR002, the record featuring no less than five local heroes, each showcasing their signature sound: Mattason, Fabio Santos, Kai Stein, Westblaak, and Thierry.

Kai Stein’s “Empowered” on side B1 is leading the charge, a hefty club-ready banger built on raw drums and sharp, muffled stabs that weave through the track as it progresses. Played on a proper sound system, this garagey piece could rock an entire dance hall in no time.

Returning to the A-side, Mattason’s “Wrong Track” on A1 is anything but wrong. This vibrant, interstellar masterpiece veiled in mystery and alien-like grooves proves to be the right track at any given time. The piece explores a dark yet bouncy trajectory that grabs your attention with ease.

The title of Fabio Santos’ “Give me some bassline” on A2 speaks for itself. Ask for it and you’ll get it. An authentic club weapon infused with vibrant grooves and puzzling vocals capable of animating an entire crowd with its infectious energy.

Westblaak’s “Slapthat” on B2 dives into a funkier, more eclectic territory, infused with quirky breaks and unexpected twists that lend a playful surprise factor. Closing out the EP is Thierry’s “YYY” on B3, a moody track, ethereal enough to cater to any given industrial venue during a weekend all-nighter.

Hurry up and pre-order your copy of TSR002 here before they sell out, as this is a limited edition and there will be no further reissues.
