After their debut release with Paradise City Breakers, which sold out in record time, SONUM returns with their second EP. From the mind of Matteo Point, the “Acid People” EP collects a clutch of diverse bangers.
With each of the four tracks on the EP having its own character, we first of all take on A2 track “Fresh Morgen”. A truly unique piece of club music, the percussion loops, effected vocal, and wicked bassline combine to set the foundation of a rock-solid banger. It is not until the wildly pitching synth line begins to take centre stage that the true nature of the track reveals itself. A1 presents a different mode, and the titular track “Acid People” offers a more hypnotic route. Crisp percussive salvos and synthy strings temper the 303 modulation here to great effect.
Flipping over to side B, “Vvvaneggg” switches the script again, and the huge slap bass is the major driver here. Together with the elongated synth notes, the emotive side of the track shines through. Completing the release is “Musika Progressiva”, and much more functional than the rest of the EP, but also packed full of character.
