There’s a bubbling scene over on the island of Mallorca. Of course it’s no surprise when your sister island has and continues to be the party capital of the world. But we’re not here to talk about the the White Isle. We’re hear to talk about Santa Catalina.
The Palma sub-district might have been a quiet fishing village in the past but these days there’s some serious fun to be had. And thanks to Halbert and his Santa Cata Records, there’s plenty of it.
Halbert is doing the scene some justice. Alongside his compadres, their Planetary Instinct parties have become something to be desired. Jumping between private villas and the intimate Selva club, ideas stay fresh and the community grows.
In the background, Halbert continues to work on his own music. From his latest EP, we received ‘What Is It?’ on the premiere.
A mysterious intro drips a cute melody, and there’s little time to waste until the groove takes hold. Bubbling bassline grips with a rolling purr, dashed with lashings of funk, a slap of the bass. Elements move with purpose, something is brewing.
The break centres around a menacing vocal, as tensions rise to boiling point. What is it? A freaky frenzy, exploding into a madness that would twist any dance floor on its head.
Sirens blare, bassline hits and strange chatter creeps, as the melodies intensify with stabs at the piano. It’s a quirky barrage full of twists and turns – the question remains unanswered, even when all is said and done.
