Ukrainian Mystictrax label presents its second vinyl release, featuring tracks from the also-Ukrainian Travis or Alice. We have the opener here.
“Happy (Sophu8)” is a dancefloor techno jab at forced happiness and “positive psychology”. The track invites movement but doesn’t allow for full release, as the press release says. The track is kinda too hard for Trommel, at the same time, easily imagined at any DJ set of some “darker” DJs on the scene.
The original version of “Spysh” is a psychedelic electro thriller. Like all tracks on the release, it has a dual nature and also functions as a reflection on childhood trauma. The remix from Na Nich makes the original’s psychedelia meet surgical precision in a hazy half-time forest.
The culmination of the mini-album is “KRYCHY (SCREAM!!)”. As the intensity builds, it nearly goes into industrial territory. “Kyiv Fashion Week”, an anxious piece about the world of fashion, culture, and personal boundaries. Finally, “Idols / Outsiders” logically reflects the previous one. This outsider manifesto invites the listener into a personal space where a restless spirit and an inquisitive mind have found a kind of Zen in their otherness.
