Premiere: A1 – BOOH – Robotical Ashes [BOOEP01]

The prolific French producer BOOH launches a new sub-series on his label BOOOoo! Records with BOOEP01, a release that leans deeper into darker electro territories while maintaining the tightly engineered club functionality that has defined much of his output so far.

Fizzing with nimble percussion and polished low-end pressure, the EP moves through shades of euphoria, tension and more tripped-out robotic workouts. Whether it is a warped breakbeat or the neat 808 programming, there is a constant sense of momentum running through the record.

Between the steady stream of material landing on BOOH’s Bandcamp and releases via his BOOOoo! Records ran Bousti, there is clearly a producer operating in fluent conversation with his machines.

Following appearances on labels such as Exarde, Maazarn Records and Outdom, BOOH feels increasingly locked into his own sonic language, one that blurs the edges between techno, electro and tech house without becoming tied too rigidly to any one framework.

Our premiere focuses on Robotical Ashes, a track that immediately pushes forward with feisty peak-time moods. Sharp percussion cuts tightly across a crushing bassline while robotic vocal fragments flicker through the arrangement, adding to the track’s cold but playful character.

The groove remains stripped back and functional, though there is enough movement in the details to stop things from becoming overly linear. Small shifts in texture and filtering constantly reshape the atmosphere, giving the track a restless energy that feels designed for darker rooms and late-night moments.

What stands out most is the control in the mixdown. Every element lands with clarity and potency without overcrowding the arrangement. BOOH leaves enough space between the drums, vocals and synth stabs for the groove to breathe naturally, allowing the tension to build gradually rather than relying on obvious peaks.

The remaining tracks continue to explore different shades of the same aesthetic. Elsewhere on the EP, broken rhythms and warped electro patterns bring a more twisted edge, while the cleaner 808-led moments nod subtly towards classic machine funk and early tech house structures. Across the record, there is a strong balance between rawness and precision, with BOOH favouring direct, club-focused ideas while still allowing enough personality to shine.

The launch of the BOOEP series also feels like a logical extension for the label. While BOOOoo! Records has steadily built a catalogue; this new chapter appears more focused on more pensive and robotic tendencies.

With mastering handled by DDA and artwork from Antoine Provost, BOOEP01 arrives as a confident first statement for the series. ‘Robotical Ashes’ in particular captures BOOH at his most focused, delivering a track that is punchy, efficient and full of subtle detail without losing sight of the dancefloor.
