Trommel.249 – Transparent Sound (live)

It is hard to believe that what was previously a duo could easily pass for originator Detroit natives was actually formed in Bognor Regis. We are, of course, talking about Transparent Sound. Having been at the forefront of UK electro since the early 90s, the cult pairing of Orson Bramley and formerly Martin Brown have a wealth of hardware-based gold to be found in their sprawling discography. With the lion’s share coming out on their own namesake imprint, TS have also appeared on esteemed labels such as Pressure Traxx, Crayon, Tyrant, Exceptional, Tresor, and Orson’s own Orson Records imprint.

Having such an illustrious name such as Transparent Sound appear on our mix series is always cause for celebration, but a live recording makes this week’s edition all the sweeter. Taking place at SBLMNALSIGNL last month, the party also coincided with Orson Records’ 20th anniversary. Orson then proceeds to the main course of squelchy basslines, tweaked-out synths, and drum programming to make even the most die-hard electro head cry tears of joy. Transparent Sound is a national treasure, and considering he continues to fly the flag some 30-plus years later, it only cements TS as still being a leading light in the genre.
