The German / Brazilian collective known as O MATO has always set out to do things differently than the rest. Taking their cues from environmental and socio-cultural issues that our planet and its vastly important eco-systems face today O MATO is a crew with a conscious. Their flagship project “The O MATO Experience” is a fine example of the teams’ approach to sustainability, regional products and nature preservation.
Taking place at ‘Cheiro do Mato’ – a private peninsula in the Rio Negro region between 6th September to 16th September the experience will involve a wide range of musical performances from the likes of Carrot Green (Comuna), Dj Koolt (Phonotheque)
Eva Luzia (Space I Need), LEMOAN (Reshuffle Music), Ney Faustini (D-EDGE), Patrick Poitz (Lize Records), Pensanuvem (Macumbia) and Riccardo (Imprints Records) plus more artists are to be announced. The program is not just limited to music either, there will be a variety of different leisure activities such as fishing, canoeing and wakeboarding as well as traditional and modern workshops or you can just simply laze by the relaxing river.
If you are looking for even more adventure then there are trips/ expeditions that will take in stunning waterfalls, jungle camps and boat tours to bordering Anavilhanas National Park. The surrounding rivers are home to extremely rare pink dolphins and other exotic species. This will really be a breath-taking opportunity to experience Brazil and its natural beauty alongside a truly caring crew of like-minded souls.
As well as this stunning Brazilian retreat O MATO also hold other events throughout the year and since speaking to Trommel last year those events have included a pop up cinema where they show documentaries about the jungle, an upcoming charity event that will donate proceeds to Survival International and of course their more club-centric parties where music is the main focus. Their next such party is Into the Jungle on Saturday, April 20th where Alexander K. Einetter (LowMoneyMusicLove, Childhood Int.), Bodin (Traffic Records) and Lion Bakman (The Gathering, Watergate Club) will be performing at a special Easter event in Berlin.
If you would like something a bit closer to look forward to the O MATO team will also be heading back to their island retreat for another edition of their Island Festival on Saturday, May 18th. Taking place just outside Berlin and the O MATO team have a great collection of artists lined up including Alexander K. Einetter (LowMoneyMusicLove, Childhood Int.), ANALOG AFRICA (ANALOG AFRICA), BeatPete (Backyard Joints), CMYK (Kommuna), DJ Hp76 (Curadoria), J. Feierabend (O MATO), KMS100 (O MATO), Laurine (Slow Life), Markus Sommer (Pager Records) and S. Moreira Live Jam with Daniel Zabon (sax), Leo Barreto (bass) and Leonardo Reyna (keys) (Slow Life). Judging by the photos and videos from the O MATO page this is one getaway that should not be missed as their multi-stage location looks simply idyllic.
